Five Nineteen ode to Africa

In my early twenties, prior to being saved, I asked a Ghanaian friend if when nursing, she would share with her husband if he ever requested it. “Of course,” she responded.

Fellow Africans, although Adult Breastfeeding is a topic just as taboo on our continent as elsewhere, if not more so, there are people who are very interested. In fact, an increasing proportion of traffic to my blog originates from African countries, especially large English speaking ones. I’m currently visiting home and I could just sense it.

Here is one of my favourite verses in several of our most widely spoken languages:

3. Hausa: kyakkyawa mai kyan gani kamar barewa. Bari kyanta ya ɗau hankalinka. Bari ƙaunarta ta kewaye ka.

4. Yoruba: Abo àgbọ̀nrín tó dára, ìgalà tí ó wu ni jọjọ, Jẹ́ kí ọmú rẹ̀ kí ó máa fi ayọ̀ fún ọ nígbà gbogbo, kí o sì máa yọ̀ nínú ìfẹ́ rẹ̀ nígbàkúgbà.

5. Igbo: Dika nne-ele nke nāhu n’anya na nne-ewu-ọhia mara nma, Ka ara-ya abua nēju gi afọ na mb͕e nile; Nání n’ihu-n’anya-ya ka i ganāwaghari mb͕e nile.

7. Somali: Iyadu ha kuu ahaato sida deerada jacaylka badan iyo sida cawsha quruxsan, Goor walbana naasaheedu ha ku deeqeen Oo had iyo goorna jacaylkeeda ku faraxsanow.

8. Fulfulde: Debbo ma wooɗi bana lelwa, enɗi maako nguykine koo ndey, yiide maako seyne foroy.

9. Afrikaans: so vol liefde, so mooi soos ‘n takbok, soos ‘n ribbok.

10. isiZulu: Uyindluzelekazi ethandayo negogokazi elihle; amabele akhe mawakudelise ngesikhathi sonke,
weqiwe njalo luthando lwakhe.

11. Maasai: Inchoo enyorrata enye kimput iyie, inkatitin pooki te nchipai, inchoo enyorrata enye kidumu anaake.
