GOD’S WORD Translation
No one has ever seen God. God’s only Son, the one who is closest to the Father’s heart, has made him known.

Notice how the same word is translated “bosom” in some versions, and “heart” in others. It makes perfect biblical sense, because the Bible calls the heart the  centre of human will, emotions and being. Compare that with the definition of “bosom” by the Cambridge Dictionary:

Cambridge bosom 1Cambridge bosom 2

So biblically speaking, “bosom” and “heart” are nearly synonymous.

Therefore, to be in someone’s bosom is to be close to the person’s heart. So close you can’t get any closer. Close enough to accurately make the person known to strangers.

Though we used to be strangers and aliens, hostile to God (Rom. 8:7), darkened in mind (Col. 1:21), the One who dwells in the Father’s bosom has made peace between the Father and us (Col. 1:20, 2 Cor. 5:18-20, Eph. 2:16-17). We now have unrestricted access to the Father (Eph. 2:18). We are in his bosom, forever grafted into his heart.

God’s incredible genius never ceases to amaze me. In his infinite wisdom, he chose to place a woman’s breasts close to her heart. Most mammals don’t get this privilege. The privilege of having a child or male connect so tightly to the heart of the female. Even people still hostile to God and dead in their sins claim it’s supernatural.
