“that you may nurse and be satisfied
from her consoling breast;
that you may drink deeply with delight
from her glorious abundance.”[a]
— Isaiah 66:11
Footnotes:
- Isaiah 66:11 Or breast
Notice that the Hebrew word rendered “glorious abundance” (kə·ḇō·w·ḏāh) can also mean “breast.” Same thing with Latin.
The Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon (dictionary) defines the root word “kabowd” (Strong’s 3519) as
- abu[n]dance, riches
- honour, splendour, glory
- honour, dignity
- honour, reputation
- my honour
- honour, reverence, glory
- glory
So a woman’s overflowing and productive breasts are her abundance, riches, honour (X5), splendour, glory (X3), dignity, reputation and reverence.
I’m elated that God’s hidden glory from creation is being revealed through the kind, gracious, compassionate, tender, loving, vulnerable and intimate practice of the Adult Nursing Relationship. And women everywhere are rediscovering an aspect of their femininity that’s been hidden for centuries. Glorious femininity (and masculinity) at its best!
